CORONAVIRUS TESTING CONDUCTED IN ROBINVALE

As part of the Victorian Government  / Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) directive, all health services were required to participate in the Blitz testing.

Setting a target of 100,000 “asymptomatic” (those individuals presenting with NO symptoms) tests were to be undertaken as a surveillance exercise. The results would help inform decisions about slowly lifting restrictions ahead of the State of Emergency that were reviewed on Monday 11 May 2020.  As part of the testing we included residents of the Euston community to attend.

Robinvale had already commenced COVID-19 testing on all campus sites but this was restricted to “symptomatic” patients only.

In the beginning of the blitz testing, the RFDS were requested to assist through the provision of resources, that is, vehicle, staff and PPE (personal protective equipment) by the DHHS.   During their negotiation, the DHHS allowed the RFDS to select an area and as we are already in a formal partnership with the RFDS they opted for assisting RDHS with the testing of Robinvale and surrounds.

Leanne Adcock (RDHS) AND 2 Ambulance Officers (RFDS); Paul and Sarah being the main representatives of RFDS staff. We also had the assistance from Dr Bec Jacobs of the RFDS and Local GP Dr Jane Neyland.   Nursing Staff of the health service were also testing those community members and staff presenting to the UCC.

Over the week, 353 test were carried out.  Individuals and groups tested (it was totally voluntary with consent being obtained by the individual and / or Manager if required).

People tested included, our local IGA supermarket, Pharmacy, Post Office, cafes, Asian groceries staff, all 3 schools (Robinvale College, St Mary’s and Euston Public) and the Industrial area (Moore Street) businesses.

There was also a cross section of farms, grapes, pistachios and almond workers tested, healthcare workers and anyone who presented to the Urgent Care Centre (UCC) that requested one

Results are in and to date all negative showing numbers are very good.

Testing is now officially over for the Blitz but further Asymptomatic testing may occur in the future and we will keep you posted!

However, please remember if you show or experience any of the symptoms for COVID-19, even after you may of had a test performed already, which commonly are:

  • Fever
  • Breathing difficulties
  • Breathlessness
  • Cough
  • Sore throat

you may present for a COVID-19 test from your GP or phone ahead to RDHS for testing in the UCC.
