RDHS Health Promotion Programs
Health promotion is the process of supporting people to increase control over, and to improve their health.
It is not ‘promotion’ as in the sense of the word usually understood. Telling people how to look after their health is just one part of health promotion.
Below are details of current promotions running at RDHS.
The Heart Foundation Walk Group
The community Heart Foundation walking group (also known as the “Murray Marchers”), is open to anyone who is looking for a fun way to exercise and meet new people!
The walk usually takes about an hour at a reasonably gentle pace. We tend to follow the tracks along the river, however we discuss each morning which track we feel like doing on the day.
There are many physical and mental health benefits to be gained by walking as a type of physical activity.

Free Healthy Food Shopping Tour
The ‘Healthy Food Shopping Tour’ is a session that is designed to educate participants on basic nutrition and healthy food shopping techniques. With these skills you will be able to food shop with confidence and become better at distinguishing the healthier options from the not so healthy.
Each participant will receive a label reading card and we will discuss how to use them on commonly purchased food products. Participants will also receive some healthy recipe ideas as well as some other healthy eating resources.
The ‘Healthy Food Shopping Tour’ is taken at the local Robinvale Ritchies IGA Supermarket and can be done with individuals or with groups of up to 5 people. Many participants of this tour have said they found the information to be very useful and will recommend it to their friends.
For more information on how to book a 40min session, please contact Tom Coverdale the Health Promotion Officer at RDHS on: 50518160 or Email: tcoverdale@rdhs.com.au
