Robinvale District Health Services Multi-fest 2016
This year RDHS commenced a project called TREE (The Ripple Effect of Ethnicities) to work with our multicultural community. Robinvale is full of diverse cultures, and not often do they get the chance to express that culture to the rest of the community. The Tree Project was a unique way that brought together many cultures expressing their values, entertainment and food.
On 5 November 2016 the Multi-fest was the culmination of a lot of work by a committee made up of Staff from RDHS and working with Robinvale College to create a wonderful Cultural experience.
On the day more than 700 people came through the festival and experience a wide range of entertainment. Including the Robinvale College and Community Brass Band, Tongan, Fijian and Philippine dancing. We also had performances from a Thamboora instrument from Afghanistan and a Veena instrument from India. Also a number of other singers singing a wide range of songs.
Also there was a range of food stalls from India, Tonga, Fiji, Afghanistan, South Africa, Italian and Thailand to please any appetite. All food was consumed by 2pm so it must have been great.
Market stalls from our Aboriginal community, Henna drawing, jewellery and cakes were also on display.
Poorani Balasundaram the project co-ordinator said “I am amazed at the number of people who have come thru the festival and said to me how much fun they had at the event”
A wonderful surprise at the event was when RDHS staff put on a flash mob which we are sure will go viral.
Poorani also stated “I would like to thank all the staff, stall holders, Robinvale College students and our wonderful volunteers that made the day a great success. Stay tuned for the next RDHS Multi-fest late in 2017.
