Our History

Providing essential health care services since 1957

Constructed on Latje Road in 1955 and officially opened in 1957,RDHS is long-standing, vital part of the community, providing essential services and quality healthcare to the public. In 1998, RDHS became one of seven Multi-Purpose Services operating in Victoria.

A joint initiative of the Australian Government and state and territory governments, the MPS program provides integrated health and aged care services for some small regional and remote communities. It allows services to exist in regions that could not viably support stand-alone hospitals or aged care homes.

In 2009, RDHS expanded to incorporate the former Manangatang and District Hospital, ensuring the sustainability and development of quality and consistent healthcare services for the Manangatang community.

With that expansion came welcome growth of the service, and RDHS opened the doors to its new and improved facilities in 2000, including a 14-bed acute hospital and a 14-bed nursing home. The RDHS Health and Wellbeing Centre was officially opened after major renovations in 2012, where a wide range of primary care services are delivered from currently.

Today, RDHS continues to serve the community by remaining committed to providing a consistently high standard of patient care to the public, continually evaluating and growing, as well as being an employer of choice for locals and newcomers alike.
