Patients and Visitors

Visiting hours are between 10am to midday and 3pm to 8pm.

Free and easily accessible on-site parking is available on all campuses for all visitors to RDHS.

Visiting hours are between 10am–midday and 3pm–8pm. Exceptions may apply for immediate family of palliative care or seriously ill patients, and parents and carers of children – please speak to RDHS medical staff to discuss.

RDHS request that visitors be restricted to two or three at a time.

If a patient is less than 18 months old, we request the full-time attendance of a parent or carer during their stay.

Main meals for the carer or parent are free of charge; however nappies, clothing and milk formula are the parents responsibility.
Private Patients
When you present to RDHS, you will be asked if you hold private health insurance – staff will assist with determining any excess on your policy and will help you make an informed decision about utilising your policy.

Using private health insurance can help ensure you are not out of pocket for any co-payments, medical consultations, x-rays, scans or blood tests conducted by RDHS. We can also waive part of the excess on your health insurance (in some cases, please speak to staff to find out more.)

If you stay overnight at RDHS when using private health insurance, you will be entitled to a range of complimentary services – please speak to RDHS staff for more information on 03 5051 8111.
Overseas Patients
Patients who are not covered by Medicare may have to cover any costs associated with their visit. Overseas patients should check if they have Reciprocal Health Care Agreement (RHCA) with Australia or are covered under other government arrangements.
If you have insurance with an Australian Health Fund, we are able to process your account through them with no payment required up front. If you have an overseas health fund, payment of the account will be required and you will need to claim back your fees.

For those patients not covered by Medicare or a Reciprocal Health Care Agreement, fees for appointments and admissions will apply. For further information about specific costs, please speak to your treating team upon presentation.
Interpreter Services
We understand and appreciate that our community is made up of people from many different backgrounds, cultures and walks of life. RDHS strive to provide an inclusive environment for all, and to be able to communicate with you in your language.

There are interpreter services available for those who require them through an accredited interpreter service - this can be arranged where necessary via free telephone access. RDHS also ensures that information is available in other languages. Please ask the ward staff to assist with this.
